Nicknames: Girdy Girl, Goofy Girdy, Perdy Girdy
Height: A bit taller than knee height!
Weight: Under 50lbs
Bio: Girdy was originally one of a litter of five beautiful puppies from my neighbors free roaming, mixed breed female dog. The puppies and their mother, along with one other adult pitbull mix owned by the same family, were starved and neglected. They turned to rummaging through peoples garbage cans for food, and three of the puppies were shot by irratable neighbors before they were eight weeks old. Due to complaints from neighbors, my neighbors decided that they were going to shoot the two adult dogs and the two remaining puppies. When I found out about this, I offered to take in the two remaining puppies. I regretted that I couldn't take in the adults, but they had very high prey drive and could not be trusted around my cat, Molly. Shortly after taking in the two puppies, a male and a female, the neighbors children came into my yard and stole back the young male from his tie-out. Because there was nothing I could do, I never asked them to explain themselves. Luckily the female was inside at the time, and that's how I ended up with my sweet and goofy Girdy. Though I meant to find her a home originally, I quickly became attached and decided to keep her, since I didn't have a dog of my own at the time. She's now around eight months, and she's doing great. Sadly, the mother, brother, and pitbull mix were all shot after they were found attacking livestock, along with ten new puppies born to Girdy's mother in a neighbors barn.
Character: Girdy is a silly character with a great sense of humor. She's very intelligent and picks up on things quickly. Unfortunately, she often outwits me. She enjoys running away when my back is turned, chewing on my boots while I'm not looking, and sleeping on the couch at night, though she's not allowed. :) Girdy is very attached to my fiance and I, and very loyal. She follows us around the house, prefering our company to anybody elses. She's happiest wherever we are. She's my hiking and walking buddy. She loves chasing squirrels, and she was best friends with the late Duck-Duck, our russian blue duck. She's caring and sweet, and enjoys vigorously cleaning the cats ears whenever she catches Molly on the floor. She also likes to 'box' and rough-house with her daddy. She loves to rip all the stuffing out of any stuffed animal within reach and spread it all over the living room in less than two seconds. :) Girdy is extremely clumsy, often tripping and running into things head first. She's done more face-plants than I have, which is saying something! She makes the funniest noises I've ever heard a dog make, especially when she wakes up in the morning. She's extremely expressive, and very dramatic. She likes to sigh and groan when we make her upset.
Peculiar marks: Girdy has some adorable purple spots on her tongue. They actually change around a lot; she'll have five purple spots one day, and only three the next! We suspect chow somewhere along the lines, although her mother and father were both so mixed that there were no distinguishable breeds.
Best tricks: Leave-it, Handshake, Speak, Lay, Wait, Come.
Worst tricks: She pretends to be asleep in the entryway, then comes instantly to life the second the door opens and bolts out to freedom. She also goes mysteriously deaf every time she sees something she wants to chase, so she can't hear me tell her NO. . lol.
Name story: My mother had a dog before I was born that she was very fond of named Girdy, so I went with that.
Favorite moments: Anytime she runs face first into something. .
Embarassing moments: Nothing really comes to mind. .
Worst moments: I thought she might die once when she got bit by a big black tarantula she was playing with in the yard. Her whole face swelled up terribly, but we gave her some benedryl and she pulled through just fine.
Likes: Mommy and daddy! Plastic bowls, stuffed animals, boots, socks, shirts, underwear, cat toys, going for walks, sleeping on the couch. .
Dislikes: Showers.
Favorite activity: Chasing squirrels and rabbits until I'm hopelessly lost. Going for hikes in the woods.
Favorite food: Sausage.
Favorite treat: Sausage. .
Favorite park: We don't go to any parks!
Favorite toy: Anything I'm not supposed to have.
Favorite game: Running away and rough-housing with dad.
